Celtic are currently away in Australia in order to take part in the Sydney Super Cup, where they will take on Sydney FC and Frank Lampard’s Everton in a glamour friendly. Initially, they were scheduled to take on the Rangers in a Glasgow Derby down under before the Ibrox club decided to pull out of the game following backlash from their supporters.

Celtic’s tour of Australia is very important for the club, which has been proven by the fact that they have taken everyone with them who is not away at the World Cup. The club have certainly enjoyed a boost in popularity there, following the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as manager.

The manager will surely be keen for his side to impress on his return home. At the same time though, it looks like Celtic could be handed an unexpected boost while on tour as well, as Callum McGregor could mark his return to training.

As reported by the Daily Record, the club captain told Celtic TV:

"“Hopefully I will be joining bits of the sessions this week and just progressing the rehab. It will be an important five, six days for me as well. I am looking forward to getting back on the grass with the boys.”"

Celtic handed unexpected injury boost while away in Australia

McGregor has been out of action for quite some time now, after he picked up an injury in a Champions League game against RB Leipzig.

There is no need to bring up how important McGregor is to this Celtic team because everyone already knows about it and the Bhoys in fact deserve a lot of credit for keeping their domestic results up, even in the absence of the captain.

At the same time though, there is no doubt that they are a much better team with the Scot in it and thus, one can only hope that he is back in the mix as soon as possible. Although there have not been a lot of regular updates about McGregor’s status, it looks like he is closing in on a return now.
