Celtic sit nine points ahead of the Rangers in the Premiership title race right now, who are closer to third place than they are to first. Naturally, questions have been raised about the future of Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox. Despite guiding them to a Scottish Cup win and the Europa League final last season, the Dutch manager seems to be quickly running out of ideas this time around.
They had the worst Champions League group stage campaign in the history of the competition, and have not been a lot better in the league either. The fans seem to have given up on Van Bronckhorst as well, booing on numerous occasions at half-time and full-time, while ‘GVB Out’ has been trending on Twitter.
If the Rangers are going to make a change in the managerial hot seat, the World Cup break might be the right time to do that.
As reported by Football Insider, sources have said that Rangers are increasingly likely to sack Van Bronckhorst in the coming days after weekend crisis talks.
Rangers likely to make Van Bronckhorst decision and hand Celtic title boost
The Ibrox club find themselves in a terrible position right now, whether they decide to hold onto Van Bronckhorst or decide to part ways.
A new manager coming in would mean a new beginning and could make the title race even simpler for the Hoops. The likes of Michael Beale, Sean Dyche and Ralph Hasenhuttl have all been linked with the job. On the other hand, one cannot completely rule out the idea of Steven Gerrard making a return, as he finds himself without a job right now after being shown the exit door by Aston Villa.
For Celtic, whoever it is, matters very little. As long as they don’t drop more than 8 points till the end of the season, they are guaranteed to be champions.
