Celtic are a great club to join for youngsters, to establish their names in European football before ultimately ending up down south in the Premier League or one of the other top 5 leagues in the continent. There are some though, who fail to deal with the pressure that comes with playing at Parkhead, where even a draw is considered as a crisis.
Efe Ambrose had an interesting career at Celtic. He played quite a bit of football for the Hoops during his time at Parkhead. But he will perhaps always be remembered for the high profile mistakes that he made.
Ultimately, the Nigerian international would never end up taking the next step after leaving Celtic and has gone on to have a bit of a journeyman career instead.
It looks like he could have potentially ended up joining Manchester City ever before stepping foot at Parkhead though, if things had worked out for him. But that move did not transpire. As reported by the Daily Record, he told MailSport:
"“I had the opportunity to go and train with City for four days. They wanted to sign me.“I trained with Aguero and Balotelli – and Mancini was looking for cover at centre-half. They wanted to see me in a game before making a final decision but Ashdod said no.“They needed me for a crucial match against Hapoel Tel Aviv. I was obliged to go back. It was a big moment in my career.“The road was clear for me to go to Manchester City but I missed the opportunity.”"
Former Celtic star almost ended up joining Manchester City instead before his Parkhead move
While Ambrose did not get his move to Manchester City, despite training with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Mario Balotelli, he would end up joining Celtic in 2012 instead.
It is safe to say that it did not go as well as everyone would have hoped despite the fact that Ambrose did get to play quite a bit of football for the Hoops.
Ultimately, his career would pretty much fade away after departing Parkhead. Ambrose went on to play for several Scottish clubs and currently finds himself at Greenock Morton in the second division.
Now 34 years of age, retirement cannot be too far away and to be honest, Ambrose went on to have a very respectable career for someone who did not even want to be a footballer.
