Celtic and Everton are set to face off in Australia in the Sydney Super Cup soon. That might not end up being the only interaction between the two clubs in the near future though. In fact, it appears that the Merseyside club have set their eyes on Ange Postecoglou, in order to fill the managerial hot seat at the Toffees.

Frank Lampard did a wonderful job at Everton last season, saving them from relegation and becoming a cult hero amongst the fans as a result. But this time around, they find themselves in a relegation battle once again.

And as a result, Lampard is one of the favourites to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked. If Everton do end up making that decision and show the Chelsea legend the exit door, then Postecoglou might very well turn out to be one of the first names that they end up going after in order to fulfil the void in the managerial hot seat at the club. He is said to top the Toffees’ list of potential replacements.

Citing Alan Nixon, a report from Fox Sports goes on to read:

"Lampard is now the odds-on favourite to be the next Premier League manager sacked – with five already having lost their jobs this season. And reporter Alan Nixon wrote in his Patreon that Postecoglou now “tops” Everton’s list of potential replacements, and is favoured due to being “straight-talking” and playing “fast and attractive football”.Nixon added that “Lampard is in danger” as the team struggles once more. Remarkably, Everton and Celtic meet this Sunday in Sydney in a mid-season friendly – where a Celtic win would heap more pressure on Lampard. And in another coincidence, both managers share the same agency."

Everton could end up handing a surprise blow to Celtic’s title hopes by going after Postecoglou

It goes without saying that Postecoglou has done an incredible job ever since he has become the manager of Celtic and is a fan favourite and then some.

Nobody would want to see the manager leave the club anytime soon and it does feel unlikely that he would be interested in leaving the title race and go to try and save Everton from the drop.

Everton are a big club without a doubt, but there current situation means that if Postecoglou took that job, he could soon find himself managing in the Championship. This might even be a good opportunity to point out that Postecoglou grew up a Liverpool supporter.
