There’s quite a difference in what’s facing Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou, and the Rangers’ present manager, Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, over the coming days. One returns to Australia with most of his players for the Sydney Super Cup and has been given an amazing piece of recognition by being inducted into Football Australia’s Hall of Fame.

On the other hand, Van Bronckhorst now has a break from matches, although rumours suggest that the club could very well be looking to make a change in the Ibrox hot seat. Do you give a plaque for the worst ever record in Champions League group stage history?

The World Cup is almost upon us and so is that amazing trip to Australia for Celtic to play Sydney FC and then Everton, in a glamour friendly, down under. Of course, when that was first launched it was intended to feature the Rangers and not Frank Lampard’s side. That’s before the Ibrox club decided to withdraw.

Now, the only man heading out of Ibrox during this break might turn out to be Van Bronckhorst, with serious doubts over his future at the club.

As reported by the Daily Record, speaking about Postecoglou’s induction, Football Australia chairman Chris Nikou said:

"“Our Hall of Fame is the highest honour bestowed upon players and participants who have served the game – either on or off the field – with distinction.”"

The honour reflects Postecoglou’s record as a player in Australia and his time as boss of South Melbourne, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and the national team, which he led at the 2014 World Cup as well as to their triumph in the Asian Cup in 2015.

He has of course then led the way very successfully for Australian football managers in Japan and now in Europe with Celtic, winning the league title last season. It’s a brilliant reward for a successful manager still at the top of his game.

What an inspired appointment Postecoglou has proven to be for Celtic. It is hard to think of anybody else who could have done a better job.
