Giovanni van Bronckhorst finds himself walking a tightrope right now, as Celtic went nine points ahead of his Rangers side, after a comeback win over Ross County. Goals from David Turnbull and Sead Haksabanovic were enough to seal the win and sent the Hoops fans on a high into the World Cup break. It is safe to say that the mood is very different around Ibrox right now.
It took a late penalty to rescue a point in their game against St Mirren, as the Rangers continue to slip down the Premiership table.
After just 15 games, the difference between Celtic and the Rangers now stands at nine points. Not where they would have hoped to be in, going into the World Cup break.
It goes without saying that the situation is far from ideal for Van Bronckhorst. There has been a lot of booing coming from the Rangers fans in recent times while many of them have made it clear on social media that they want the Dutch manager to be shown the exit door. While speaking on Sky Sports and as reported by STV News, he said after the match against St Mirren:
"“Of course we’re going to sit down that’s for sure and speak about the last couple of months and which way to go forward.”"
Talking further about his future at Ibrox, the Rangers manager added:
"“I have no fear.“I never have fear.“I just see what comes but I don’t have fear. It’s a five week break before the next game.“That’s time to reflect, rest and recover and we have two weeks to recover for the first game against Hibs.”"
Van Bronckhorst makes admission about his future as Celtic go nine points clear of the Rangers
It is safe to say that the Celtic fans will be delighted with the position that the club are in at this point of time.
It is also important to remember though that we are just 15 games into the Premiership season. As Celtic proved themselves last season, leads can be overturned.
So they cannot rest on their laurels or peek at what is happening at Ibrox. Celtic’s job from here is continue to racking up the wins and points, and not drop more than 8 points till the end of the season. The rest will take care of itself.
