Celtic have managed to create a gulf of seven points between themselves and the second-placed Rangers, who have hardly seen anything going their way in recent times. The recent 1-0 win over Hearts at Ibrox might have lifted some of the pressure off Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s shoulders but the Dutchman is still walking the managerial tightrope.

From getting eliminated from the UEFA Champions League with zero points and the worst group stage record in the history of the competition to falling seven points behind in the title race well before the World Cup break, a lot of their fans have called for Van Bronckhorst to be shown the exit door and there has been a lot of booing going on at Ibrox in recent games as well.

However, recent rumours have suggested that the club has not lost faith in the Dutchman yet, meaning that he would allow him more time despite the recent results.

Amidst all this, former Celtic star, Charlie Nicholas, has come forward to suggest a couple of potential replacements for Van Bronckhorst, if he was shown the exit door by the Rangers anytime soon.

Former Celtic star picks two candidates to replace Van Bronckhorst as Rangers manager

While writing in his column for Scottish Daily Express and as reported by Glasgow World, Nicholas said:

"“If the Rangers board was to move on Giovanni van Bronckhorst then you would expect the likes of Sean Dyche and Ralph Hasenhuttl to be serious contenders to replace him. Dyche and Hasenhuttl are both managers that Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has worked with in the past at Watford and Southampton and has relationships with.”"

Sean Dyche has been without a managerial job since being sacked by Burnley in April 2022, bringing an end to a decade long run with the Clarets. On the other hand, Hasenhuttl has become the latest causality in the Premier League after Southampton’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United. Both have proven their worth while managing a top-tier teams in England, respectively.

As things stand, Celtic’s seven-point lead over Rangers appears to be a massive advantage for The Hoops. Let’s see if it is enough for the Ibrox club to rethink their approach and bring a change in the managerial hot seat, which is expected to come at a cost.
