Celtic have quite a lot of depth in a number of positions across the pitch thanks to their recruitment since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager in the summer of 2021. The club have certainly backed the manager and pretty much completely revamped the squad over the past three transfer windows and are reaping the rewards for it now.

One of the areas where Celtic are deepest is goalkeeper. Number one, Joe Hart, is covered by Benjamin Siegrist and Scott Bain. On the other hand, Conor Hazard might be set to return as well after a league-winning loan spell in Finland with HJK Helsinki. The club have a couple very highly rated young shot stoppers coming through the ranks as well in Tobi Oluwayemi and Josh Clarke.

Another man who is doing very well this season is Vasilis Barkas, who is away on loan in the Eredivisie with FC Utrecht. Does he have a future at Celtic though?

Celtic have been told to accept an offer for him and let him go. As reported by Football Insider, Alan Hutton said:

"“They paid a lot of money for him. It has just not worked really. Celtic look in a good situation at this moment in time with the goalkeepers.“[Benjamin] Siegrist coming in from Dundee United, I know him well from my time at Villa. He will probably want to push [Joe] Hart who has been playing at an exceptional level as well.“I think Celtic are going to have to cut their losses and try and get him out because I do not see any sort of future at Celtic for him.“"

Celtic signed Barkas from AEK Athens in the summer of 2020 for big money and hopes were that he would end up as the man between the posts for years to come.

It is safe to say that that has not been the case and after a couple of poor seasons at Parkhead, the club allowed to let him leave for FC Utrecht.

The Greek goalkeeper has looked like a player reborn there though and has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Eredivisie this season.

With Hart being 35 years of age and there also being question marks over his head at the moment, one has to wonder if Barkas could make a turnaround and be the the Hoops’ goalkeeper in the future.
