Celtic find themselves in a great position in the league right now. Ange Postecoglou’s side are seven points ahead of the Rangers in the Premiership table and one could argue that they have not gotten out of second gear yet. It is hard to remember many incredible performances from the Hoops this season but what they have done is rack up the wins, even on their bad days. That’s what champions do.

The same cannot be said about the Rangers as of now. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have gone through a patchy run of form. The Dutch manager seems to be feeling the pressure and might be running out of ideas quickly, as their form has not improved in recent weeks.

The fans seem to have given up on Van Bronckhorst as well and there have been calls for him to be shown the exit door, and bring a new manager in. That might not be as straightforward in reality though.

As reported by Football Insider, Frank McAvennie said:

"“I think if he was not on a good contract he would not be there.“I think they can’t afford to sack him. Their league form has not been good but they are getting results, the fans are saying it is terrible.“The fans that I know do not understand how they can be good one week then not the next when it is the same players. He keeps mixing the team up.“Every week [John] Lundstram has a different player beside him. You have got to know your best team by now. It is a big club and your fans do not allow you to play the way you have been playing. They have been getting results but that is about it.“"

Celtic hero makes incredible Rangers claim regarding Van Bronckhorst’s future at the club

It is safe to say that there is still quite a bit of time left on Van Bronckhorst’s deal with the Rangers.

This might also be a good time to point out the fact that the Rangers had stuck with Steven Gerrard when he had fallen 13 points behind Celtic in the 2019/20 campaign. And unlike Van Bronckhorst, he had won no silverware at that point of time.

It remains to be seen if the Rangers decide to show Van Bronckhorst the exit door anytime soon and to be honest, the Dutch manager’s future does not make a world of difference to Celtic. It does potentially give them the opportunity to increase the gap in the league table further, if the Ibrox club do continue to drop points.
