Neil Lennon achieved a lot both as a player and as a manager at Celtic, but his time at the club will perhaps always be marked by the club’s failed 10IAR campaign, when they blew their chance to make Scottish football history. The Hoops would go on to finish 25 points behind the Rangers in the title race and trophyless overall. The Northern Irishman had stepped down in February but by then, it was too late to salvage anything.
Of course, the decision to bring back Lennon for a second stint, following Brendan Rodgers’ move to Leicester City, was never a popular one amongst the fans.
Lennon did enjoy some early success, with the team even winning a treble under his management the following season. But it was clear that as time progressed, they got worse.
Marian Shved had a unique time at Celtic. Rodgers did not seem to be a fan of his signing and he did not fare much better under the management of Lennon. As reported by Glasgow Live, he told the Daily Mail about Lenny:
"“Maybe he already knew he was going to Leicester and that is why he said this, but Rodgers never told me he was not going to use me.“I think I had two weeks training with Rodgers and that was it. After that, Lennon came in but, in my opinion, he didn’t do anything good for us because the first season the team played well on the methods of Rodgers.“The second season showed Lennon’s skills as a coach. We lost against Cluj in the qualifiers for the Champions League and, of course, the results are the responsibility of the coach. I don’t think he trained us well.“He was at the training every day but he did not control the process. Look, the team still played well. As for me? I didn’t play and it’s my problem. That was not the problem of the coach.”"
Former Celtic player makes brutal Lennon claim
After walking away from Celtic, Lennon would end up in Cyprus with the Omonia Nicosia job, and while he did enjoy some success there as well, it was not long ago that he was shown the exit door.
As for Shved, despite being very highly rated, he never really got a chance to show what he was capable of and ultimately, ended up joining KV Mechelen on a permanent deal.
Since then, he has gone on to resurrect his career and currently plays for Shakhtar Donetsk, who came up against Celtic in the Champions League.
On the other hand, Celtic have found a brilliant manager for themselves in Ange Postecoglou, who has done wonders since coming in.
