The Celtic board have not always been popular amongst the fans. Of course, that is dictated by the club’s performances on the pitch and at the moment, things are going pretty well. The Hoops are sitting at the top of the Premiership table, leading the Rangers by four points and are going after back-to-back League Cups, as they have made it to the semi-final, where they will face Kilmarnock.

Of course, it has not all been smooth sailing, as they finished bottom of their Champions League group but it was a good learning experience for the club, returning to the competition after such a long gap.

Ange Postecoglou has eyes on bigger things though and has never made it a secret that he wants Celtic to be regulars in the Champions League. Not just a club who make it to the group stage once every five years.

And promisingly, the manager believes that the Celtic board back his vision. As reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou said:

"“I’m not disheartened by anything I’ve seen so far, or seen that we can’t go this way. I think we can do it this way and make up ground. I’m haven’t had any frustration or sense there wasn’t any alignment. I’ve had full support along the way. I’ll keep doing it until someone taps me on the shoulder and says, ‘that’s enough’.“I’m obsessed with success. I’ve had success at every club I’ve been at because I haven’t limited what that looks like.“I see no reason why this club can’t compete in the Champions League regularly. There’s obviously a massive gap to the big clubs but there’s nothing to suggest we can’t be a strong club at that level. There’s nothing written anywhere that says, ‘this is your limit’.”"

Postecoglou makes big claim about Celtic board as he eyes Champions League dream

The Celtic board might not always get a lot of positive things said about them but they deserve the world of credit for how they have dealt with the Postecoglou situation.

One has to remember that it was a very controversial decision to appoint him after the long chase for Eddie Howe fell apart and many people believed that it was a desperation move from a board that had run out of ideas.

Well, it has proven to be anything other than that and the board deserve a lot of credit for trusting the manager and their own vision, and backing him with a number of signings in the transfer market. It was a big gamble to bring in someone who had no record in European football, but it has certainly paid off.
