Celtic might have been left disappointed with how their Champions League campaign went overall, not producing a single win and just two draws vs Shakhtar Donetsk, but the performances in Europe’s elite competition were nothing to scoff at at all. The Hoops showed that they could hang with the best of the best in certain areas, although there might still be a lot of other areas to work on.

Overall, Ange Postecoglou has to see this as a positive step forward for his side, who must have learnt a lot of lessons, from coming up against the biggest of teams that there are in Europe.

Hopefully, they will take those lessons and get better moving forward. At the same time though, the Celtic board need to take some positive steps as well and extend the contract of Postecoglou as soon as possible.

Postecoglou is currently believed to be on a 12-month rolling contract and with the job that he has done since arriving at Parkhead, he has certainly earned himself a bumper new deal.

Postecoglou arrived at Celtic under the toughest of circumstances with the team coming off of a disaster of a season. Even a trophy would have been considered as a bonus in his first campaign in charge of the club.

Instead, Postecoglou guided Celtic to the League Cup as well as the Premiership, and became a fan favourite in the process of doing so.

Of course, his exploits will not have gone unnoticed and clubs from England have already been linked with Postecoglou several times. The safe thing for Celtic to do would be to tie him down to a long-term contract, similar to what they have been doing with a lot of players. Then, this can be a long-term project, with the perfect man in charge.
