Both Celtic and the Rangers went on to have disappointing Champions League campaigns and neither side managed to even win a game of football. At least the Hoops performed well and it was their finishing that let them down. Not even that can be said about Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side, who posted up the worst record in the history of the group stage of Europe’s elite competition, losing every game and by quite some margin.

Ultimately, Celtic or the Rangers’ Champions League seasons are not ‘make or break’. It is the domestic competition that is both clubs’ bread and butter, and there, one would have to consider Ange Postecoglou’s side a step ahead as we enter November.

Celtic are currently sitting four points ahead of the Rangers in the Premiership table, while both teams have done a great job to make it to the League Cup semi-finals.

The biggest thing that Celtic might be ahead at the moment though is their record against the Rangers in some of the recent Glasgow Derbies, which include 3-0 and 4-0 wins at Parkhead. And Ally McCoist has admitted that that is his biggest concern about his former side right now. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the Ibrox legend said:

"“A bigger concern for me would be Rangers’ level of performance at Celtic Park in a couple of league games.”"

It is safe to say that Celtic have been getting the better of the Rangers in recent times, with Postecoglou’s side winning thrice while Van Bronckhorst has only managed his way to one Glasgow Derby victory, the other game has ended in a draw.

Of course, the past matters very little in football and thus, the Hoops cannot rest on their laurels or their recent record in the Glasgow Derby.

It does give them a major psychological advantage though. Not only have they beaten the Rangers at Parkhead but at Ibrox as well.
