Celtic did a tremendous job keeping the core of their squad together this summer. While Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton did leave the club, other than that, everybody else with a significant place in Ange Postecoglou’s plans stayed put in Glasgow. And we have seen that pay dividends at the start of the season itself.

Celtic are currently sitting at the top of the Premiership table, leading the Rangers by four points. They have also booked their place in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals, where they will take on Kilmarnock at Hampden Park. And while they might be out of Europe, the performances in the Champions League were very encouraging.

Thus, it is safe to say that Celtic must be very happy with the performances of a number of their players and it looks like two of them, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Liel Abada, could be set to receive contract extensions.

As reported by Sky Sports, Celtic are in talks with Abada and Giakoumakis over improved contracts. They want to reward the pair for their excellent form. Their current deals run until 2026 but discussions are going over new five-year deals, which would keep them at Parkhead until 2027.

Giakoumakis arrived at Celtic last summer, having already topped the Eredivisie scoring charts in the previous campaign. The Greek international had a rough start in Glasgow, as he struggled to remain fit for any considerable length of time.

Giakoumakis has been in incredible form since the turn of the year though and been Celtic’s most consistent goalscorer. He is 27 years of age, and if he does agree an extension, it would mean that he is ready to spend his prime years at Parkhead.

On the other hand, Abada turned 21 just recently and is yet to even nail down his spot in the starting XI. His output has been sensational though, and he has the potential to be a brilliant player, when he gets more experience under his belt and becomes more polished in certain areas.
