Celtic’s transfer record might have been great in the recent transfer windows, under the management of Ange Postecoglou, but that was not always the case. In fact, one of the biggest reasons behind the disaster that was the 2020/21 campaign was the number of signings from that summer, which did not work out.

Albian Ajeti was one such arrival that summer. Initially, it was thought that the club were looking to bring him in on a loan deal from West Ham United. But then, they ended up signing him on a permanent deal instead for a transfer fee believed to be around £5 million.

It would be an understatement to say that the move did not work out. By the time Ajeti left on loan this summer to join Austrian club, Sturm Graz, he was completely out of the first-team picture for Celtic.

Most fans don’t expect Ajeti to pull on a Celtic shirt again. Yet, the Swiss international has not ruled out that possibility. As reported by Football Scotland, he said:

"“Listen, you never know. I still have two years contract there at Celtic.“I will try and get as much game time here as possible and score as many goals as possible, staying healthy obviously. Then we will see what happens at the end of the season.”"

It is easy to forget but Ajeti actually made a great start to life at Celtic. By the time he scored five times for the club, he was averaging a goal around every 47 minutes in the Premiership, and it had looked like the club had found their long-term replacement for Odsonne Edouard.

Ajeti would end up injuring himself in the process of scoring against Hibernian. And while it did not keep him out for long, the Swiss striker never rediscovered his early form again.

He is having a decent time at Sturm Graz on loan and let’s see what the future holds for Ajeti there. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the striker has scored 3 goals in 11 appearances for the Austrian club. They have an option to buy included in the deal.
