Celtic have been linked with a number of players in recent times with the club expected to make additions in the January transfer window and quickly. Fans will remember that the Hoops had announced the triple signing of Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi before the previous winter transfer window had even opened. Let’s see if they can show that kind of efficiency this time around as well.
One of the most exciting young names that they have been linked with in recent times is that of Oscar Gloukh of Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The 18-year-old has taken Israeli football by storm and was believed to be rated by Maccabi Tel Aviv at a transfer fee around £8 million. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Gloukh has scored 4 goals and provided 5 assists in 9 league appearances this season. Thus, it is not hard to see why Celtic might hold an interest in the player.
The Hoops were believed to have a decent chance of signing him as well, as Gloukh’s contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv was running out. That is no longer the case though.
Rumoured Celtic target has extended his contract
As reported by the Maccabi Tel Aviv’s official website, Gloukh has signed a new contract which should keep the attacking midfielder at the club till the end of the 2024/25 season.
Of course, Celtic are no strangers to signing highly talented youngsters from Israel. Liel Abada was brought in last season and is already making waves in Scottish football. On the other hand, Nir Bitton was signed during a similar period in his career as well and went on to enjoy a nearly decade-long run at Parkhead.
Interestingly, Bitton is a current teammate of Gloukh at Maccabi Tel Aviv. Hopefully he will have some good things to say to him about Celtic. While an immediate move might be off the table, it is very possible that the Hoops could try to sign the Israeli midfielder in the future, depending upon his development.
