Both Celtic and the Rangers have had their troubles in recent times, but it is safe to say that the situation around the two Glasgow giants are as far apart as can be. At Parkhead, Ange Postecoglou seems to have the complete backing of the fans and the club, after proving himself last season by delivering the Premiership and the League Cup against all expectations.
On the other hand, at Ibrox, it looks like the fans are not backing Giovanni van Bronckhorst anymore, even though he won the Scottish Cup and guided them to the UEFA Europa League final last season. There has been audible booing at full-time in recent matches, while rumours have floated around that there could potentially be issues behind the scenes as well.
Thus, Celtic and the Rangers are in a very different place, both on and off the pitch. In many ways, the Ibrox club’s season feels like the early phases of the Hoops’ disastrous 2020/21 campaign.
Kris Boyd feels though that we are dealing with thin lines at the moment, even though he does admit that Celtic have momentum on their side. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the former Rangers star said on Sky Sports:
"“It’s four points at this moment in time. If you go back, 15 minutes before the end of the Hearts vs Celtic game, there is an opportunity for Rangers to maybe go and win the game and go top.“It’s thin lines at this moment in time.“I think because of the way Rangers have been playing, they will probably be saying to themselves, ‘Let’s hang on in there and get to the World Cup.’“The weekend was a disappointment for Rangers in terms of dropping points, but you’ve got to say Celtic look as if they are the team right now with the momentum.“Ange Postecoglou seems to stick by the same team, he’s mixed it up recently, obviously because of the European exertions and then coming back home.“They dropped points against St Mirren, but other than that, they’ve won all of their games.“They are in a good place, they are confident and they’ve got a bigger squad than Rangers at this moment in time as well.“I wouldn’t be ruling Rangers out at this precise moment. Yes, Saturday was a disappointment, but four points can be turned around pretty quickly, that’s for sure.”"
Boyd makes stunning claim about Celtic and Rangers
While there is not a huge gap between Celtic and the Rangers, one also has to remember that we are just 11 games into the season. Thus, four points is a significant lead at this stage of the campaign.
At the same time, one also has to point out how things turned out when the Glasgow giants met earlier on in the campaign, with Celtic winning by a 4-0 scoreline. Van Bronckhorst has managed to get the better of Postecoglou only on one occasion till now.
Yes, things can change very quickly in football and that is especially true this season with there being a World Cup to be played in the middle of it as well. As of this moment though, this seems like Celtic’s title to lose.
