Since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager, Celtic have shown an efficiency in the transfer market, that we have not seen from the club in the past. It has truly been an unforeseen transformation and a very positive one. Fans would remember how they announced the triple signing of Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi before the January transfer window had even opened last season.

This time around, it looks like Postecoglou has his plans already in place as well in terms of what he wants the club to do.

Celtic have quite a solid midfield at this point of time, but it looks like the manager is still not satisfied with the options available to him and wants to make another addition in the middle of the park and the Hoops hierarchy are ready to back the Australian.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic have already set aside cash in order to sign a new central midfielder in the January transfer window. Behind the scenes, Postecoglou has made it clear that he wants to strengthen the squad further. As a result, the Hoops are prioritising the signing of a proven central midfielder, who is capable of shielding the defence and have set aside a “significant” amount from the budget for it.

Postecoglou eyes new signing for Celtic in the January transfer window

The Hoops must be commended for backing Postecoglou in the transfer market throughout his time at the club and hopefully that will continue to happen.

Interestingly, it looks like the manager is looking to add a defensive midfielder to his side in the January transfer window.

Celtic did sign Oliver Abildgaard on loan from Rubin Kazan in the summer though. So, it is possible that the Danish midfielder has not been able to impress Postecoglou in training. Or that the manager thinks he needs more options to play in that role.
