Celtic have brought in a number of players during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager, who could go onto become major stars and get big moves in the future. That has not been an uncommon thing at Parkhead and the Hoops are used to losing their best players to the glitz and glamour of the big five European leagues.

One of their best players in recent history was Moussa Dembele. The Frenchman was sensational during his two years at Celtic, scoring over 50 goals and firmly establishing himself as a fan favourite.

Dembele would go onto join Ligue 1 side Lyon from Celtic for a transfer fee around £20 million and has gone on to enjoy a fair bit of success there as well. That has led to him being linked with the biggest clubs around Europe several times, but a move has never materialised.

Celtic are believed to have a sell-on clause though, and this January would pretty much be their last chance of getting something out of it, as Dembele’s current deal with Lyon runs out at the end of the season and an extension looks unlikely. That is where Manchester United could step in.

As reported by the Mirror, Erik ten Hag is believed to be looking for a traditional striker and three players rumoured to be in the sights of the Manchester United manager are Lille’s Jonathan David, Bayer Leverkusen talisman Patrik Schick and Dembele.

Dembele is not enjoying a great time right now, with his future up in the air, but he had a stellar campaign last time around. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Dembele scored 22 goals and provided 5 assists in 36 appearances for Lyon in the 2021/22 season.

Thus, an attempt from Manchester United in January would make sense, with Cristiano Ronaldo looking destined to leave the club. And it could end up leading to Celtic receiving a potential cash boost.
