Jota has been out of action for quite a while. The Celtic star was taken off at half-time in the game against St Johnston earlier this month with what was thought to be fatigue. Yet, we are still to see the Portuguese winger back in action and it is unclear when he will eventually make his return to the pitch.
It goes without saying that Jota is one of Celtic’s most important players. In fact, he remains the only one to score in the Champions League this season for the club.
Thus, the Hoops will hoping to have him back fit and available as soon as possible. While it remains to be seen when that will be, he has been handed an unexpected World Cup boost.
As reported by A Bola, Jota is one of the players who has been named in Fernando Santos’ list of 55 pre-selected Portuguese players for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Jota handed surprise boost amid struggles with injury at Celtic
This just goes to show the progress that Jota has made at Celtic over his time at the club. When he arrived in the summer of 2021, he would have been nowhere near this list.
Jota has been in stunning form for Celtic and been one of the club’s most important players, playing a big part in their Premiership and League Cup triumphs last season, and being one of their standout performers this time around, before he got injured.
Celtic fans will be waiting for Jota to make his return. The club seem to have rediscovered some of their form even without him though, scoring 14 goals over the past three games. Now, it remains to be seen if they can continue in this same vein of form. Their next match is at Parkhead against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League group stage.
