Not only is Kenny Dalglish a Celtic legend but Ange Postecoglou has also admitted to him being his favourite player growing up. And he certainly seems to have been impressed by the kind of football that his former side are playing under the Australian manager.

One player in particular seems to have caught Dalglish’s eye and it is none other than Cameron Carter-Vickers, for how he has handled being the captain of the club in the absence of Callum McGregor.

McGregor got injured against RB Leipzig and is expected to be out for quite some time. In his absence, Carter-Vickers has been handed the armband and taken to the role seamlessly. Most people would have expected Joe Hart to get the role, but Postecoglou has been proven right in his judgement already.

Dalglish wrote in his column in The Sunday Post regarding Carter-Vickers’ captaincy:

"I’m sure Ange Postecoglou would rather have Callum McGregor fit and available. He is the heartbeat of the team. But I have been impressed with the way Cameron Carter-Vickers has handled the captaincy. Some guys can find the armband too much of a weight to carry around. But the American defender has risen to the challenge – and excelled. He has led by example, and there is no doubt he is a top-quality defender."

It is safe to say that Celtic pulled off a masterstroke by signing Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur, initially on loan and then on a permanent basis.

There is very little doubt that he is the best defender at the club right now and we have seen the team struggle at the back in the absence of the American international.

It is incredible that he did not even get a look into the Tottenham Hotspur side because he seems more than capable of playing at the Premier League level.

Of course, Celtic will need Carter-Vickers to be at the top of his game when they take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League next. Their hopes of finishing third and qualifying for the UEFA Europa League are hanging by a thread and they need to win this if they are to have any hope of doing that.
