Following their 1-1 draw vs Livingston at Ibrox, it is safe to say that the Rangers are under immense pressure, as they saw Celtic go four points clear at the top of the Premiership table. The Hoops had a tough time as well, but ultimately, they were able to grind out a 4-3 win over Hearts away at Tynecastle Park.
Even more worrying for the Rangers could be the fact that Celtic have not been in a good run of form in recent weeks and even then, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have not managed to catch up to them.
If the Hoops end up rediscovering their best form soon, the gap could end up increasing further, as the Rangers are looking far from convincing at the moment. On top of everything else, the fans seem to have turned on Van Bronckhorst, with audible boos at both half-time and full-time in the game vs Livingston.
As reported by the Daily Record, when asked on Sky Sports about the pressure on Van Bronckhorst, Kris Boyd said:
"“I think the performances haven’t been great but he’s managed to win games of football. Livingston at home, it’s an opportunity to get a few goals and the confidence back ahead of an away trip to Naples.“But it was another lacklustre performance from Rangers. Flat, lack of creativity again, and I think that’s been the main reason why the fans have been acting the way they have been.“Livingston were organised and when Rangers got into the final third, the balls were poor. You expect Rangers to be a class above the rest in the Scottish Premiership but it’s not been the case.“Everything seems to be a struggle in this moment in time and it’s like everything else, if you don’t win games of football then there’s added pressure on the manager. I’m sure that will be no different at Ibrox. It was a real flat performance at Ibrox, and that’s why the pressure will start building on Giovanni van Bronckhorst.”"
Boyd has made Van Bronckhorst admission as Rangers struggle to catch Celtic
It would be an understatement to say that Van Bronckhorst is under pressure. In reality, the Rangers seem lost at the moment.
They have won games and the gap in the league is not insurmountable, but the performances have not been inspiring at all. Even the games that they have come out victorious in, have been narrow victories. It is hard to remember a statement performance from the side.
Thus, this could actually be a good opportunity for Celtic to widen the gap between themselves and their Glasgow rivals. The problem is, that the Hoops have been shaky themselves in recent weeks.
Hopefully, when the Champions League campaign comes to an end, we will get to see Postecoglou’s side regain some momentum once again and produce their football on a consistent basis.
