Celtic’s summer signings have not made the immediate impact this season that they did the last time around. Of course, the clear reason behind that is the fact that Ange Postecoglou has not needed to throw them into deep waters from the very start, like he did last season, when he did not have as deep a squad.
That means that these summer signings are now getting the time and opportunity to sit on the bench and adjust to the style of football, surroundings and their new teammates, before being handed their chances, most possibly in the second half of the season.
Yet, there are a couple of summer signings who have already started to make their mark on the team. One of them is Alexandro Bernabei.
Bernabei became the first Argentine player in Celtic history when the Hoops signed him from Lanus this summer, and after a slow start in Glasgow, he has come into his own in recent weeks, turning what was once the club’s biggest problem position into a strength.
Celtic problem position has now become biggest strength
Greg Taylor has looked like a player transformed under the management of Postecoglou and has been one of the club’s most consistent performers this season.
On the other hand, Bernabei is bringing something different to the table as well. and starting to make his present felt. The Argentine has caught the eye with his ability going forward and already set up a couple of goals, with the most memorable being the 95th minute winner from Giorgos Giakoumakis vs St Johnstone.
Not too long ago, left-back was considered as the weakest area of Celtic’s squad, as the club had never managed to properly replace Kieran Tierney. Names like Boli Bolingoli and Diego Laxalt had come and gone. But now, finally, it looks like the Hoops have two brilliant options in Taylor and Bernabei, competing for the spot and we don’t know who the starter should be on current form.
