Kieran Tierney was well on his way to becoming a Celtic legend before leaving in the summer of 2019 in order to join Arsenal in a Scottish record £25 million transfer move. In England, he has enjoyed a fair bit of success as well and is considered as one of the Gunners’ best players. Unfortunately though, injuries have remained a thorn in the path of the Scotsman, as was the case at Parkhead.
As a result, he seems to have lost his starting place in Mikel Arteta’s side. While he continues to feature regularly for the club in the Europa League, he simply has not played enough this season in the Premier League, as Arsenal sit at the top of the table.
If things continue like this, it is very possible that he could look for an exit soon. There should not be any lack of interest in him either, with clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid linked with him in the recent past.
While it might not be near, what about a return to Celtic one day though? Tierney is definitely not ruling out the possibility. As reported by Metro, while speaking on BT Sport’s Currie Club podcast, the Arsenal star said:
"‘I think when a player who loves the club leaves there’s always that, “what if he comes back” – and you can’t rule anything out.‘I’m always going to love Celtic, I’m always going to support Celtic so you never know in football, you genuinely don’t.’"
Tierney makes admission about potentially returning to Celtic one day
The potential of returning to Celtic one day could very well be on the table for Tierney, but it does not look like it will be anytime soon.
If Tierney even ended up leaving Arsenal in the near future, one would suspect that he would remain in the Premier League with a big club or move to one of the other top five European leagues, instead of moving back to Parkhead.
Let’s see what the future holds for Tierney and we can only wish him the best. When it comes to a Celtic return? Never say never in football.
