Celtic have been a dynamic and versatile team under the management of Ange Postecoglou, and one of their biggest strengths right now is their depth. The club have key players like Jota, Carl Starfelt and captain Callum McGregor out of action at the moment, yet they have been able to put up quite strong starting XIs.
That would not have been the case last season when the squad was paper thin and Postecoglou was being forced to play players out of position regularly due to injuries.
Now though, rotation has become a big part of Celtic’s game plan and it is not hard to see why. With the style of football that Postecoglou likes his sides to play, it is impossible for any player to keep up with that for three days a week and continue delivering good performances.
The only guy who possibly can is McGregor, when fit. As reported by Glasgow Live, Greg Taylor said about the matter:
"“Yes, we’ve got a squad for that reason. Every player naturally wants to play in every game but that’s not possible – unless you are Cal!“We all want to play but equally we understand that there has to be rotation from time to time.“When the manager puts the board up before the game, you are just keen and hoping that your name is on it.“Whoever is playing in whatever position, you just back the team that the gaffer selects because we know if we all have that attitude and work hard for each other then we’ll all reap the rewards and get the success together.”"
Taylor names the only undroppable in Postecoglou’s Celtic side
It goes to show the culture that Postecoglou has managed to build up at Celtic in such a short period of time. There are no rumours of players creating problems behind the scenes, even those who are not playing. That is a rare thing in modern football.
Even Christopher Jullien, who got to make just one appearance last season, that too as a substitute, had nothing but positive things to say about Postecoglou and his methods after leaving the club in the summer to move back to France.
Of course, as far as undroppables go, there are few better than McGregor. The captain consistently puts in good performances and has been having these marathon seasons for years now, even playing the most of the previous one with a protective mask on his face. It did catch up to him recently, as the Scottish midfielder ended up suffering an injury in the game vs RB Leipzig.
