Kyogo Furuhashi is a player who has known nothing but success for the majority of his time at Celtic. He was instrumental in both their League Cup and Premiership triumph last season, despite having his injury issues, and started the current campaign in top form as well. Things would go off the rails a bit for him recently though.
Kyogo was forced off the pitch early in the game against the Rangers due to an injury and while he did not miss much time because of it, he did seem to lose his incredible early season form.
Recently, Kyogo has been going through his first real barren run in front of goal at Celtic since joining last summer. He has missed a whole host of good chances while at the same time being a bit unlucky as well on several occasions.
He must have been relieved though to find the back of the net against Motherwell and will surely be hoping that that ends up opening the floodgates for him once again. As reported by The Scotsman, Ange Postecoglou said regarding the matter:
"“He’s like all strikers.“They go a couple of games without scoring and the world collapses in on them. You are trying to tell them they haven’t lost any of the ability they have and I’ve still been pleased with his general play. He’s been getting in those areas and it’s just a matter of him, like any striker, believing in what we are doing, keep hitting those areas and the goal will come.“I’m sure he’s happy. He was a bit unlucky. He had a great shot in the first-half and he hit the post last weekend. Those are the fine margins for strikers. Probably earlier in the year, they both would have gone in, but the key for me is that I’m still pleased with the way he is playing. He is contributing, he’s causing problems for the opposition. I’m pleased for him to get the goal, but it doesn’t change my assessment on how he’s been playing. He’s still been a contributor.”"
Celtic boss makes admission about Kyogo’s struggles in front of goal recently
Sooner or later, every player is expected to hit a rough patch and hopefully, this was Kyogo’s and he is past it now.
There is no doubt that Kyogo is a tremendous player. His biggest quality is his movement, which is off the charts and helps get him into incredible goalscoring areas.
He has done that during this bad run of form as well. The problem has been that he has not been able to finish those chances off like he normally would. Now, with a goal under his belt, one would hope that he would get a lot of his confidence back and start scoring on a consistent basis once again because Celtic do need their Japanese superstar if they are to have a good season.
