Celtic fans have been aware of the abilities of Ange Postecoglou for a long time. Yes, a lot of eyebrows were raised when he first arrived as the manager of the club last summer. But back then, he was coming in as a relative unknown in European football and had never even managed a top flight club in the continent, despite his successes in Australia and Japan.
It did not take Postecoglou long to win the trust of the Celtic fans though, thanks to the attacking style of football that he championed and the fact that the club started to win on a consistent basis once again.
Postecoglou guided a side that had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the previous season to a Premiership and League Cup double against all expectations.
This season, Celtic have managed to impress in the Champions League as well, even though their terrible finishing has let them down time after time. Otherwise they would have been in with a real chance of qualifying to the knockout phase of the competition. And people around Europe are certainly starting to take notice of Postecoglou now.
Celtic boss beats Jose Mourinho in managerial rankings
In a list of the 50 best managers in the world by FourFourTwo, Postecoglou managed to finish at 30th position.
Just for context, that means that he was ahead of notable names like Mourinho, who is currently at AS Roma, Simone Inzaghi of Inter Milan, Spanish boss Luis Enrique and Brazilian national team manager Tite.
Those are some big names to be named ahead of and something that Postecoglou should be proud of achieving. A year ago, he would not even been on that list.
Of course, he was ahead of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as well, who does find himself at the 44th position.
