Celtic must be delighted with their recruitment since the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as manager. In a little over a year, the club have been able to bring in stars like Jota, Kyogo Furuhashi, Giorgos Giakoumakis, Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate, Josip Juranovic, Cameron Carter-Vickers and others. And it looks like Sead Haksabanovic and Alexandro Bernabei have the potential to end up on that list soon as well.
Yet, it seems that it is an area that the Hoops are keen to improve upon further. After all, at a club like Celtic, it is one of the most important aspects to be successful, as you are expected to bring in great players for bargain transfer fees year after year.
As reported by The Scottish Sun (via Football Scotland), Steve Hitchen could work in an advisory role with Postecoglou. The two are believed to have mutual friends.
Hitchen’s last role in football was as the Director of Technical Performance for Tottenham Hotspur, which he left earlier this year. Back then, he was being linked with a move to Everton but that did not happen.
Celtic are close to bringing in former Tottenham Hotspur man
Hitchen had an unremarkable playing career but has been impressive since hanging up his boots and taking up the scouting side of the game.
Early on in his career, he worked as a scout for Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, and is believed to have had a hand in signings like Luka Modric and Luis Suarez during that period of time. He has also worked for clubs like QPR and Derby County.
He was not a popular figure amongst Tottenham Hotspur fans during his second stint at the club though, as it was marked by a number of signings that did not work out. The only two notable successes from that period of time are Lucas Moura and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
