Celtic player set to remain out with injury for weeks

Celtic have two major problems at this point of time. One is their inability to find the back of the net. Over the past seven games, they have only scored six goals and even two of those have been own goals. It goes without saying that if they do not find their scoring boots quickly, the Hoops might be in big trouble.

The second is their long list of injuries, as Celtic have a number of key players sitting on the sidelines right now. One such player is Carl Starfelt.

Starfelt missed the entire pre-season with an injury but would return to action towards the start of the campaign. But then, he suffered another injury in the game against the Rangers and has not featured since then. And while the Swedish international has resumed training, he is not going to be available for selection for a couple more weeks at the least.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Postecoglou said about Starfelt in a press conference:

"“It’s still a couple of weeks, but he is out there training. We are hopeful for before the break but the reality is there’s so many games, you’d have to think about which game you put him in because we don’t have a lot of recovery between games these days.“He is out running but it will be at least a couple of weeks before we can even consider him for selection.”"

It goes without saying that Starfelt’s absence has been a big miss for Celtic. He had established himself as a starter in this team last season and formed a great duo with Carter-Vickers at the back.

In his absence, the likes of Moritz Jenz and Stephen Welsh have filled in in defence to mixed results.

But the performances that Jenz has put in when playing alongside Carter-Vickers has raised hopes that he is someone who can play in that area and potentially even challenge the Swede for a starting berth when he is back.

Unfortunately, Welsh seems to have picked up a knock himself, and that has left Celtic stretched at centre-back when it comes to options and hopefully, Carter-Vickers and Jenz remain fit.
