Celtic have been struggling with injuries in recent times, a major reason behind their downturn in form over the past several weeks. As things stand, the Hoops are missing key players like Callum McGregor, Carl Starfelt and Jota, and the name of Liel Abada might very possibly have been added to that list in the game vs RB Leipzig as well.
It goes without saying that the situation is far from ideal. But at the same time, their Glasgow rivals have their fair share of worries as well.
Rangers suffered a hammering at the hands of Liverpool in the Champions League, as Jurgen Klopp’s side beat them 7-1 at Ibrox. And that was not the only reason that their fans were left covering their eyes in horror during the game.
As reported by the Daily Record, Connor Goldson is set to be out of action for months after picking up a horror injury during the Champions League defeat to Liverpool. The defender has suffered a suspected severe thigh muscle tear.
Rangers dealt massive blow as they try to chase down Celtic in the Premiership
It goes without saying that Goldson’s injury is a major blow to the Rangers and their hopes of catching up with Celtic in the league table.
Goldson has been one of the Rangers’ most important players this season and been an ever-present in their team. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 17 appearances for the club this season across all competitions.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side has looked extremely suspect defensively this season whenever up against top opposition. They have conceded 16 goals in their 4 Champions League group stage games till now and unsurprisingly have ended up losing all of them. They also suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Celtic at Parkhead earlier on in the campaign.
