It is safe to say that Celtic have been home to a number of modern legends of the Scottish game, thanks to how dominant they have been. The club did end up winning nine straight league titles and an unthinkable Quadruple Treble, before the disaster of a season that was the 2020/21 campaign brought an end to that run.
Celtic have since returned to the top of the Scottish game once again, by winning the Premiership in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge of the club.
The current team looks completely different to the one that had enjoyed so much success in the previous decade though and the only player that has remained a constant in both phases is Callum McGregor, who has gone onto take the armband from Scott Brown, who has hung up his boots and started managing.
Brown will soon be joined in retirement by former Celtic vice-captain Mikael Lustig as well though, who is set to hang up his boots at the end of the current season.
Celtic Invincible hero will retire at the end of the season
As reported by the Daily Record, Lustig has announced that he will hang up his boots at the end of the season.
Lustig enjoyed a glittering career at Celtic, winning a whole galore of trophies and he went on to almost make a 100 appearances for the Sweden national team as well.
He currently plays for AIK and is set to turn 36 years of age soon. Thus, it should come as no surprise that he has decided to hang up his boots soon and call time on his playing career for good.
It will be interesting to see what Lustig decides to pursue after his playing career. Will he become a manager? Will he enter the punditry world? Or will he try his hand at something else? Whatever it is that he decides to do, Celtic fans will be supporting him every step of the way.
Thank you, Mikael.
