Andy Robertson has never made a secret of the fact that he is a Celtic fan. In fact, he was even part of the Hoops’ youth academy at one point of time, but was let go due to his lack of size at the point of time. It goes without saying that that has proven to be a gigantic mistake in hindsight, with the left-back going on to become an European and Premier League champions with Liverpool and the captain of the Scotland national team as well.
One thing that has remained constant during that incredible journey from rock bottom to the mountain top is Robertson’s love for Celtic. He has even pointed out multiple times that he would like to play for the Hoops one day, if the circumstances are right.
Thus, him being part of the Liverpool team that destroyed the Rangers 7-1 at Ibrox must have been a special experience.
And Robertson took to Twitter after the game to send a message to the fans, as the Liverpool star tweeted out:
Celtic: Robertson sends message after destroying the Rangers
Coming into the game, Liverpool were not a side in form. In fact, there were many who believed that the Rangers had a chance of taking something out of the contest, if they could use the Ibrox advantage.
Scott Arfield did put the Rangers ahead and they were in the game for a while. But Liverpool would turn up the heat late on in the game and Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side just could not handle it.
Robertson did not start the game on the day, but he did come on as a substitute, in what must have been a special occasion for him, to return to Glasgow and be part of a 7-1 win over the Rangers, in their own backyard. It is a shame he was not doing it in a Celtic shirt. Maybe someday!
