Celtic were handed a 2-0 defeat by RB Leipzig at Parkhead to end their hopes of qualifying for the knockout phase of the Champions League. Understandably, fans were left disappointed as the Hoops did put in some solid performances but their finishing was lacking in all four games. Unsurprisingly, they just have a point to show for their efforts and there is a good possibility that they will finish bottom of their group.

One player who did have an enjoyable night at Celtic Park was Timo Werner. The German international has a point to prove after his struggles at Chelsea, where his reputation as a top striker took a huge hit. He returned to RB Leipzig in the summer and will have a chip on his shoulders.

Werner was not having a lot of joy until he managed to score the opening goal for RB Leipzig and then ended up assisting the second one. Thus, it was an effective performance on the part of the German forward that he most definitely will be happy with.

And it is safe to say that Werner was impressed by the atmosphere at Celtic Park. As reported by the Daily Record, he said after the game:

"“We got off with a black eye I think. My goal was exactly what we needed to silence such a stadium with an amazing atmosphere. It’s always good to score a goal in front of a crowd like this.”"

It is safe to say that Werner has played in front of some of the best atmospheres in world football and has even won the Champions League during his time at Chelsea.

For Celtic though, this should come as a bit of a wake up call as well. While it is great hear people praise the atmosphere at the ground, it is more important to win games at home, which the team are not doing.

Celtic Park has hardly been a home ‘advantage’ for them in the Champions League in recent times and unless the club can establish it as a ‘fortress’, it is hard to see them making it to the knockout phase of Europe’s elite competition anytime soon.
