It is hard to think about many positive things considering the fact that Celtic lost in the Champions League once again, this time 2-0 against RB Leipzig. Yet, there were a couple of summer signings who did make an impression and deserve to be appreciated for their performances on the night.
The first one is Sead Haksabanovic, who was brought in from Rubin Kazan but has been struggling to reach full fitness till now. He had shown glimpses of his quality during his cameos in earlier games and started this one against RB Leipzig. And he was in full flow on this occasion.
Haksabanovic was easily Celtic’s best outlet going forward and looked like a cut above, very polished with the ball at his feet. Fans must have been left salivating at the idea of him reaching full fitness and adjusting to the Scottish game, because the Hoops might be on to another winner here.
The second one is Moritz Jenz. The German centre-back had received quite a bit of criticism for his performance against St Mirren earlier on in the campaign, but on this occasion, he was immense. Perhaps he needs to be playing beside someone like Cameron Carter-Vickers in order to get the best out of his game.
Celtic summer signings shined vs RB Leipzig despite another defeat
Of course, when it comes to the result, there is not much positive to write about. Celtic are certain to not make the last 16 and there is a good probability that they might not even make the Europa League.
Let’s see what the next two games bring. They must beat Shakhtar Donetsk at home after letting a golden chance go in Warsaw.
On the other hand, the final group game will be against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu. It goes without saying that taking anything out of that one would be tough.
