Celtic’s transfer record has been brilliant since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager but that was not always the case. In fact, they had a tough time signing the right players for quite a few years before that and that was one of the major reasons behind their unexpected collapse in the 2020/21 campaign.

One of a series of players who could not make their mark at Parkhead was Lewis Morgan. He had been a part of the Rangers’ youth system but broke into senior football at St Mirren, and the Hoops were impressed with what they saw from him, even at the Championship level.

Morgan failed to impress during his time at Celtic though and when he made a move to Inter Miami in early 2020, not many fans were concerned. In hindsight, the club appear to have made a mistake.

Morgan had a good time at Inter Miami before joining New York Red Bulls, and there he has been absolutely superb. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 17 goals and provided 3 assists in 36 appearances for the MLS side.

Judging by the numbers and performances that Morgan has put up since his move to the MLS, it is safe to say that Celtic probably should have shown a bit more patience with him.

He is someone who can play on both wings, and even up top as a false nine if the situation calls for it, and is still 26 years of age. If Celtic ended up signing someone from the MLS with similar stats, fans would be buzzing.

As tweeted out by New York Red Bulls, Morgan has been selected as the Player of the Year by their supporters.

Considering the football clubs that Red Bull have under their umbrella, it would not be a surprise to see Morgan back in Europe in the near future.
