RB Leipzig managed to get the best of Celtic when the two sides met in Germany in midweek. Christopher Nkunku scored the opener while Andre Silva scored a brace, after the Hoops had managed to equalise through Jota. This midweek, the two sides will meet each other in the reverse fixture in Glasgow.
Celtic’s shaky run of form continued this weekend as they had to rely on an own goal and a 95th winner from Giorgos Giakoumakis to beat St Johnstone by a 2-1 scoreline and remain two points ahead of the Rangers in the league table.
For a brief moment, it had looked like they were going to drop points though and thus, one would hope that the Giakoumakis goal will give them the boost that they need to rediscover their mojo and come out firing on all cylinders when RB Leipzig come visiting.
On the other hand, this weekend produced another bad result for RB Leipzig, who could only manage a 1-1 draw against FC Mainz.
RB Leipzig suffer another blow ahead of Celtic Park visit
It is safe to say that RB Leipzig will be looking to get out of the mid-table battle that they find themselves in at the moment but have just failed to gain any momentum.
Wins against VfL Bochum and Celtic were positive results, but now, they have dropped points one again and find themselves sitting at 11th in the Bundesliga table.
That is a long shot, when you consider that many considered them as the main contenders to Bayern Munich this season.
Celtic did show enough away in Germany to suggest that if they are able to make the right adjustments then they could potentially beat RB Leipzig in Glasgow. Anything other than a win would pretty much end the Scottish champions’ hopes of making it to the knockout phase of the Champions League this season.
