Celtic have a very good squad at the moment. The picture is very different from last season, when they were thin in a number of positions and Ange Postecoglou was forced to play players out of position on a number of occasions. Now, the manager has several options to pick from all over the pitch.
Yet, the Hoops continue to struggle with injuries. And the latest name to be added to their concerning list was that of club captain, Callum McGregor.
McGregor was forced off the pitch with a knee injury against RB Leipzig in the first half itself. Since then, he has been seen in a knee brace and is not expected to return to action before the World Cup break.
Interestingly, just when McGregor got injured, another Celtic transfer rumour broke out all over social media, and that was linking them with a move for Victor Wanyama, who is set to leave CF Montreal at the end of the MLS season and will be a free agent this winter. Could the Hoops make a move to bring back the club hero to Parkhead?
Celtic have been linked with a move for the club hero once again
This is not the first time that Celtic have been linked with a move for Wanyama since he departed Parkhead in order to join Southampton back in 2013.
Almost a decade later, he remains a popular figure amongst Celtic fans and will always be remembered for scoring against Barcelona, in the Hoops’ famous win over Lionel Messi and company in the Champions League in 2012.
A move for Wanyama seems unlikely though, as Celtic have a lot of options in the middle of the park at the moment. But then at the same time, a lot of them like James McCarthy, Yosuke Ideguchi and Aaron Mooy, have not made much of an impact.
On the other hand, Wanyama is fresh off of playing consistent football for CF Montreal and at 31 years of age, could still play a role.
