RB Leipzig boss unhappy with Timo Werner’s antics vs Celtic
RB Leipzig manager, Marco Rose, must have been delighted to get a 3-1 win against Celtic. Those were the German side’s first points in the Champions League this season, after losing to both Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid, and it helped them climb out of the bottom of the group, with the Hoops taking their place now.
Christopher Nkunku was superb on the night and found the back of the net. On the other hand, Andre Silva scored a brace. Jota found the back of the net for Celtic but it was in vain.
One man who did not score on the night was Timo Werner. And his reaction to being substituted off in the game against Celtic did not appear to please Rose either.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, the RB Leipzig boss said about the situation involving Werner:
"“The player approached me, we talked and exchanged our views.“But the facts are I can’t tolerate such things and I don’t want to tolerate them. That’s important and I think that’s what Timo understood.“The matter is closed and it won’t happen again.“It’s a team game and I made that clear to him. But there’s no problem. Timo will play in Glasgow.”"
RB Leipzig boss unhappy with Werner’s antics against Celtic
Werner is under immense pressure to deliver at the moment. His reputation took a huge hit during his time at Chelsea.
He was a free scoring striker in Germany but struggled badly in English football. It must be pointed out though that he did win the Champions League with Chelsea, so in terms of silverware success, the two-year stint at Stamford Bridge might have been worth it.
But now, the pressure is on Werner to show that the bad form at Chelsea was just a blip and he is still the lethal goalscorer that he was during his first stint at RB Leipzig.
Thus, one would expect him to be keen to impress when RB Leipzig come visiting Celtic Park in midweek. A lot will be riding on the result of that game and if the Hoops lose, or even draw, their hopes of qualifying to the knockout phase would be as good as over.
