Callum McGregor’s injury came at the worse time possible as Celtic are heading into the most busy phase of the campaign and unfortunately, they will be without their captain during it. The Scottish midfielder is one of the most important players in this team and the Hoops might face issues dealing with his absence without a shadow of a doubt, as they do not really have a like for like replacement.

McGregor was forced off the pitch in the first half against RB Leipzig with a knee injury, after failing in an attempt to carry on playing.

Unfortunately, the issue is serious and looks set to keep McGregor out for the foreseeable future. He has been pictured in a knee brace recently as well.

Ange Postecoglou has now revealed the extent of McGregor’s injury and when he could potentially make his return to the pitch, and unfortunately, it might be after the World Cup. As reported by the Daily Record, the Celtic manager said:

"“The initial reports suggest he’ll probably be out until after the break at this stage. We haven’t got the final report but it looks like he’ll miss the next three, four weeks which will put him out until after the break.”"

It will be interesting to see how Celtic end up dealing with the absence of McGregor. They have the likes of Aaron Mooy, James McCarthy and Oliver Abildgaard.

On the other hand, Postecoglou went with the midfield trio of Sead Haksabanovic, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley against St Johnstone, something that not many people would have seen coming.

Unfortunately, the Hoops are going through a bad run of form at the moment. They won the game against St Johnstone by the skin of their teeth, and it took an own goal and a winner from Giorgos Giakoumakis deep into injury time to seal the three points for Celtic. Even that makes it two wins from their previous six games across all competitions.
