Celtic are not in a great spot right now. They have won only one of their previous five games in all competitions and seem to have lost all the momentum that they had built up by going on a winning run earlier on in the campaign. And one of the biggest reasons behind that is the injury situation at the club.

Injuries had been a major problem for Ange Postecoglou’s side last season and at one point of time, the manager was forced to play players out of position just to make up the numbers. While the squad is much deeper now, the fitness problems have somehow persisted.

Celtic’s struggles coping with the absence of Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers have been well documented and now, the name of club captain Callum McGregor, has been added to that concerning list of names.

McGregor picked up an injury vs RB Leipzig, which forced him off the pitch in the first half itself, and now, fears are that it is a serious issue. Postecoglou’s recent comments did nothing to allay those fears. As reported by Sky Sports, the Celtic manager said:

"“He’s off to see a specialist today, for him to come off it’s fairly significant.“It’s obviously not short-term, but we’re hoping it’s not too long-term.”"

Celtic fans will be worried by Postecoglou’s comments about McGregor’s injury

It is safe to say that McGregor is one of the most important players that Celtic have right now. They felt his absence when he was out for a few games last season and the situation could be very similar this time around as well.

There is nobody in the squad who can replace what McGregor brings to the pitch for this team, at least on the level of consistency that he has.

The fans can only hope that the injury is not as serious as feared and McGregor will return to action soon. Otherwise, Celtic’s season could well and truly be in trouble.
