As Celtic shipped three goals against RB Leipzig, fans were left wondering if things would have been different if Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt had been available on the day. The Hoops have been without both of their first choice centre-backs for a while now, with Moritz Jenz and Stephen Welsh filling in the gaps.

Carter-Vickers picked up an injury in the game against Shakhtar Donetsk and he is expected to be back in the near future.

The situation surrounding Starfelt is more worrying though. He had already missed the entire pre-season thanks to a different injury picked up while representing the Swedish national team. And then, he got injured in the 4-0 win over the Rangers as well, and has been out of action since then. It does not look like he is close to returning either.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Starfelt made a hush-hush trip to London to see a specialist on Tuesday. Celtic hope that he could return in between two and three weeks but if the report isn’t positive then he could face a longer term out on the sidelines.

Celtic have been handed a fresh injury worry surrounding Starfelt

It is safe to say that the situation surrounding Starfelt is not ideal and one can only hope that he recovers quickly.

It has become clear in his absence that he is a more important part of this side then he gets credit for at times.

Carter-Vickers is expected to return soon and that will hopefully bring some solidity at the back once again. And when Starfelt does return, one can expect the Hoops to be rock solid once again.

Until then, it looks like the Hoops will have to continue with the combination of Jenz and Welsh, who have not covered themselves in glory till now.
