Celtic make Callum McGregor red card appeal decision
Celtic fans breathed a sigh of relief as the club managed to hang on to a 2-1 win against Motherwell. It brought an end to a three-game winless run and made sure that they managed their place at the top of the table, two points ahead of the Rangers. At the same time though, Callum McGregor’s red card was a major worry coming out of the game.
McGregor took one for the team as he prevented Motherwell from going through on goal, late on in the game. The Celtic captain was shown a straight red for it though.
After the game, Ange Postecoglou had questioned whether the decision to send McGregor off was a bit harsh or not, and felt that Celtic might still have had some defensive cover. But now, it looks like the manager feels that the sending off was justified and will not be appealing it to the SFA.
As reported by the Glasgow Times, Postecoglou said regarding the incident:
"“No, I had a look at it on the replay and I think it’s fair enough.“I said at the time that I thought maybe Welshy had some cover there, but I think it was a fair enough decision.”"
Celtic have made a decision regarding appealing McGregor’s red card
The big problem now for Celtic will be coping with the absence of McGregor due to suspension as a result of the red card.
The Hoops have already been struggling for form in recent times and now, without their captain, it might be even more difficult for them in the upcoming game.
McGregor is one of the most important players that Celtic have and his talents go a long way in dictating the pace and rhythm of a game for them. Without the captain, it is safe to say that they might have a difficult time asserting themselves on the opposition.
Another problem for them might be the recent injury that Aaron Mooy has picked. It is not clear how serious it is, but if fit, one would expect him to take the place of McGregor.
