The game between Celtic and Motherwell was a bit too close for comfort. Kyogo Furuhashi put the Hoops ahead but soon found the scores tied thanks to an own goal from Josip Juranovic. Reo Hatate’s wonder strike would ultimately win the game but Callum McGregor did take a red card for the team late on, to prevent the visitors from going through on goal.

Thus, Celtic’s unconvincing run continued. They had come into the game against Motherwell without a win in three and they were barely able to edge this one.

Of course, one must remember that the Hoops did put in good performances against both Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk, but left their shooting boots at home. On the other hand, the displays against St Mirren and Motherwell were a cause for concern, and hopefully, things will improve going forward.

Paul McGinn did point out something though that has been a bit of a weakness for Celtic. As reported by Glasgow Times, the Motherwell star said:

"“We have a goalkeeper who can take the ball and that helps. We can go through him.“I watch Real Madrid pass to their keeper a hundred times. It is good that we have that option.“I felt we could have actually done that more as it frustrates Celtic. They press and press you, but they are human, they can’t keep doing that.“When we did we knew in the final third we had threats with set pieces. It is hard not to be frustrated.”"

Celtic have been a heavy pressing team during Ange Postecoglou’s time at the club. But we have seen their performance levels drop as the game wears on, as it is pretty difficult to keep up that kind of intensity throughout 90 minutes.

We have seen them come out of the gate like a storm before taking their foot off the gas in the second half on multiple occasions.

Of course, this works fine when they are able to take a healthy lead in the first half itself. But if they are unable to score or are up by just a goal, then things become very tight in the second half.

This is an area that Celtic will need to work on – putting together great 90-minute performances. If they can do that, they will be big threats at the Champions League level.
