In the eyes of many, Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest player to ever step on a football pitch. Even at 37 years of age, he continues to play at the very highest of levels, for Manchester United in the Premier League. So normally, one would not expect him to be linked with a move to Celtic. Welcome to 2022.
Ronaldo seems to be completely out of the plans of new Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag. He has spent most of his time sitting on the bench this season and was not even brought on in the game vs Manchester City, which the Red Devils lost 6-3.
Thus, a move away from Manchester United is feeling like only a matter of time for Ronaldo. It is believed that he wanted to leave in the summer itself and after barely playing in the first half of the campaign, those wishes must have only intensified.
In a report from The Scottish Sun, Celtic was named as one of five possible clubs that Ronaldo could leave Manchester United for.
Could Ronaldo move to Celtic in the future?
While you should never say never in football, one can confidently say that the chances of Ronaldo moving to Celtic are as close to impossible as it can get.
How will Celtic afford his out of the world wages? Would Ronaldo have any interest in playing in the Scottish league? Where will he fit into the team?
Ronaldo moving to Celtic does not make much sense on multiple levels and it is pretty safe to assume that it will not happen.
There did not seem to be much interest in Ronaldo’s signature in the summer though and he might just end up making an emotional return to Sporting Lisbon, the club whose youth ranks he came through, before hanging up his boots for good.
