Following the international break, the club football season has started to roll on once again. On Saturday, Celtic earned a hard-fought win, beating Motherwell with a 2-1 scoreline, with Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi scoring while Josip Juranovic scored an own goal. Callum McGregor had to take a late red card to prevent the visitors from going through on goal late in the game.

The Hoops’ rivals, the Rangers, also won their game at the weekend and in a more convincing fashion, as they beat Hearts 4-0 in the Scottish Premiership.

Now the focus must shift towards the UEFA Champions League, where Celtic will face RB Leipzig and the Rangers will make the trip to Anfield to lock horns with Liverpool in the midweek. Two massive games for Scottish clubs.

The 2022/23 Champions League campaign has not gone well for either of these two heavyweights of Scottish football till now. While Celtic have gotten just a draw from the opening two fixtures this season thus far, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have faced heavy defeats against Ajax and Napoli, respectively.

Liverpool legend heaps praise on Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou

Ahead of Rangers’ Champions League fixture against the Premier League giants, Liverpool legend Michael Owen took time to heap some praise on Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou. As reported by Football Scotland, the Ballon d’Or winner said:

"“Ange Postecolgou is pretty exceptional, and he’ll be in high demand because of the way he’s gone about things at Celtic. So the Scottish game is as strong as it’s been for a long time.“With Rangers dipping out for a few years it put a dampener on things, but now they are back, it’s pushed Celtic to another level.”"

In recent times, Postecoglou has been linked with multiple moves away from the Parkhead club, with mostly being jobs from the Premier League clubs. Some of the clubs whose names have cropped up in this regard are Brighton & Hove Albion, Leicester City and Wolves.

In their next Champions League fixture, the Hoops visit Germany to take on RB Leipzig on Wednesday evening. It is a must not lose game for them in many regards as they have been able to pick up just one point in the group till now.
