Transfer windows are never easy, and especially not for a club of Celtic’s ilk. Choosing the right players is not easy, as the Hoops might have found out after signing Marvin Compper from RB Leipzig in the winter transfer window of 2018.

The Hoops shelled out a transfer fee of around £1 million to bring in the defender, who has a German international cap to his name. However, the results from the transfer were very disappointing, with Compper failing to make any short of impact at Celtic.

Therefore, Compper’s only appearance for Celtic came in the Hoops’ 3-0 victory in the Scottish Cup against Morton. Following the lack of game time for the Glasgow giants, he left in 2019. It was not long after that that he hung up his boots.

After retirement, he took over an assistant managerial job at MSV Duisburg, the club where he ended up calling it a day on his playing career. In 2021, he joined FC Lokomotiv Moscow as part of the staff to Markus Gisdol.

However, with Gisdol vacating his managerial position, Compper was made the interim manager, a position that he held till the appointment of new manager Josef Zinnbauer earlier this year, while the former Celtic man was handed the role of an assistant.

Following a series of poor results, Compper has got the sack from the management of Lokomotiv Moscow. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the club stated:

"“Marvin Compper is no longer employed as coach after unsatisfactory results.”"

Compper had received a lot of criticism for remaining Russia amidst current conditions. That run has come to an end sooner than expected.

Interestingly, Zinnbauer has kept his position as the manager of the club. Some rumours have even suggested that the only reason Compper was not handed the role was because he did not have the license but he played a key role in coaching the team.
