Injuries have been a major issue for Celtic during the time of Ange Postecoglou as manager. It was in the first half of the previous campaign that the problem was at its peak, as we saw players being played out of position consistently in order to make up the numbers. The squad strength simply was not there.

The squad depth is no longer the problem though, as Celtic have recruited impressively and with a purpose, over the past few transfer windows.

Yet, the injury problems have persisted, as a number of key players have picked up problems at the same time. While the depth means that the gaps have been filled, the team simply is not as good.

Two of the players missing right now are Cameron Carter-Vickers and Giorgos Giakoumakis. And Postecoglou had mixed news regarding the duo, heading into the match against RB Leipzig. As reported by the Daily Record, the Celtic manager told BBC Sportsound:

"“We’ll see. Hopefully Giakoumakis should be OK, (based) on the reports I’ve had so far. Cameron Carter-Vickers, we’ll just see. He’s a day to day proposition.”"

It looks like Giakoumakis has a chance of making the squad in the game vs RB Leipzig. That is good news for sure as this team has been struggling for goals in the past few games. The Greek striker is someone who can definitely help solve that issue.

The bigger absence at the moment though is that of Carter-Vickers. Celtic just have not looked the same without his dominant presence at the back. With Carl Starfelt also out of action, the Hoops’ defence has looked pretty shaky, with the duo of Stephen Welsh and Moritz Jenz, not shining.

But chances of the American defender returning for the game against RB Leipzig do not seem to be great at the moment. At the same time though, Postecoglou is someone who often keeps his cards close to his chest, and the manager might have an ace up his sleeve against the German club.
