Celtic and the Rangers are expected to fight it out for the Premiership title this season. It was looking like the Hoops were going to walk their way to the title after their dominant 4-0 win in the first Glasgow Derby of the campaign. But Ange Postecoglou’s side have not been the most convincing since then and their 2-0 defeat at the hands of St Mirren allowed Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men to cut the lead down to just two points.

We are still very early in the season and anything can happen over a long title race. There are a lot of variables like injuries, form, luck and others, which could play their part in determining the destination of the league trophy.

It is not just on the pitch that Celtic and the Rangers might find themselves in a contest though. The Glasgow rivals have been told that they should be fighting over the signature of Ryan Porteous as well, by none other than Kris Boyd.

Boyd wrote in his column in The Scottish Sun:

"IF Rangers and Celtic are not already fighting it out for the signature of Ryan Porteous then they should be.The Hibs defender is out of contract in the summer and he’ll be the perfect fit for either of the Old Firm, who need central defensive reinforcements."

It is safe to say that Porteous is not the most popular figure amongst both sets of fans, and that is rare to be honest.

But the Hibernian star does have a bit of a reputation and has often been criticised for his lack of discipline.

At the same time though, one cannot question his talent. On several occasions, he has been the standout performer for Hibernian. And he was absolutely stunning recently in his international debut for Scotland, as they kept a clean sheet against Ukraine.

Porteous is out of contract at the end of the season. He is also just 23 years of age and as a result, a move for him might very well be a calculated risk.
