Celtic’s recruitment has been one of their strongest points in recent times and one of the biggest reasons behind the success that they have enjoyed under the management of Ange Postecoglou. In a short period of time, the club have been able to unearth gems like Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and several others. Of course, this was not always the case.

In fact, recruitment had been one of the areas of complaints for the fans not too long ago. Even when they were enjoying incredible success under the management of Brendan Rodgers, there were way too many hit and miss signings.

Lee Congerton had been Celtic’s recruitment chief in the past and he had arrived during Rodgers’ first season at the club. While he might not have been the most popular figures amongst the Hoops fans, it looks like he is in the running to get a huge job at Chelsea.

As reported by the Mirror, Chelsea are set to step up interviews for their sporting director vacancy next week. These include Victor Orta at Leeds United, as well as former Leicester City and Celtic talent scout Congerton, who is now with Atalanta. There are also Monchi at Sevilla plus Rui Pedro Braz at Benfica.

Former Celtic man is in running to get huge Chelsea job

Congerton has had an eventful time since leaving Celtic. He has had a spell with Leicester City, and currently finds himself at Atalanta, who seem to be in the running for the Serie A title this season.

Chelsea are going through a lot of changes at the moment with new ownership, which has come with the winds of change.

Could someone like Congerton end up as the sporting director of Chelsea? Only time shall tell but he seems to be in the running.
