Following their additions this summer, Celtic fans would have been hoping that injuries would not be a major concern for the club, thanks to the incredible depth that they have. Unfortunately, we ae yet to enter October and yet, it looks like there are some areas of the pitch where the Hoops are struggling due to fitness issues.

Centre-back seems to be one such area. Carl Starfelt has been struggling with injuries on-and-off since the end of last season. On the other hand, Cameron Carter-Vickers also picked up a problem in the recent game vs Shakhtar Donetsk.

It was believed to be a minor injury and Carter-Vickers was expected to be back in action after the international break. But now, there are major doubts about whether he will be involved against Motherwell this weekend or not.

Carter-Vickers was not visible in Celtic’s recent Lennoxtown Unfiltered video, as it appears that he did not train with his teammates.

What is even more concerning about this is how bad Celtic looked in the game against St Mirren, losing 2-0 away in Paisley.

The combination of Moritz Jenz and Stephen Welsh just did not work. While both have played some decent football this season while being partnered with Carter-Vickers in the heart of defence, without the American defender, neither of them looked nearly as good, in the game vs St Mirren.

Now, it remains to be seen when Carter-Vickers will be finally back in action. While it had looked initially like a minor problem, his continued absence seems to suggest that it might take him longer to recover than was initially expected.

It has become pretty clear though that Carter-Vickers is one of Celtic’s most important players and they just do not seem like the same side without him.
